We were looking for the largest homegrown zucchini!
Who Can Enter?
Anyone can enter. The entry fee is $5.00 per zucchini. At the time of registration, we will ask participants which DPS school they would like to support. Proceeds of the contest will be divided proportionally between
Northwest Denver Schools identified by contest registrants.
When is the Weigh In?
The weigh in will occur on THURSDAY, September 2nd between 4pm and 7pm in front of the Parks &
Gardens office, located at 4309 W. 44th Avenue, 4 doors east of the Oriental Theater. All entries will be
documented. Prizes will be awarded at 7pm that night or can picked up the following week during working
hours. The names of all participants and the weight of their zucchini’s will be posted in the office window for
one week after the weigh in.
How are Zucchinis Weighed?
Zucchinis will be weighed on a scale provided by Parks & Gardens and recorded in pounds and ounces.
Prizes
There will be cash awards and ribbons for the heaviest three zucchinis for children ages 0 – 4 (THE
ROOKIES), 5– 12 (YOUTH), 13-17 (TEEN), and 18+ (ADULT). First Prize: $25; Second Prize: $10; Third
Prize: $5. Merit Awards will be prolific and are up to the discretion of the judges.
Rules and Regulations
- The zucchini must be homegrown
- The zucchini should not have any holes or punctures on the skin.
- Large clumps of dirt will be removed before weigh-in (new rule).
Tips
What makes a zucchini heavy is its water content. We suggest that you wait until the day of the weigh in to
pick your zucchini. Remember to protect your prize-winning zucchini from the squirrels and other local
wildlife. Netting can help protect your zucchini.
