| A 2007 bond issue set aside money to purchase an abandoned commercial building with associated parking lots and game courts the build at 1500 Josephine, in anticipation of building a new recreation center there. Parks & Gardens was contracted by the City and County of Denver to participate in planning for site demolition and the temporary installation of a Dog Park and Community Gardens on the site as the city continues to raise funds for design and construction of the Rec Center.
To speed the process Parks & Gardens utilized a “Design by Subtraction” approach locating the dogpark on the old building site and retaining a majority of the existing asphalt for parking and site circulation.
Design for the community garden is currently in process in coordination with Denver Urban Gardens (DUG) and the administration at Denver’s East High School.
