Conceptual Site Plan
Wilmington, North Carolina is in transition. The industrial uses located along the edges of the many creeks and bayous on the margins of town have been abandoned and the City has begun to focus on opportunities for the cleanup and revitalization of these important natural resources.
Parks & Gardens collaborated with Stewart Engineering to design a new community park on the site of an abandoned tannery located on the banks of Burning Mill Creek in Love Grove. This is a pilot project for a broader initiative aimed at reclaiming a number of sites along the creeks that connect the interior of the city to the Fear River.
Design for the park balances new land uses and amenities with the traditional uses that had evolved within an established and isolated residential neighborhood. A critical component of the project included public facilitation to provide the neighborhood and local property owners with an opportunity to express their vision for the park and to solicit feedback regarding park improvements and park access.
Parks & Gardens provided conceptual design and oversight throughout the project.
