San Antonio River Basin Plan for Nature-Based Park Resources

This planning matrix illustrates the over-all intent of a Master Plan at Calveras Lake in San Antonio. The document can be easily modified as circumstances in the surrounding area change.

Parks & Gardens developed a vision plan for the expansion of two major recreation areas on the San Antonio River Corridor. This Regional Management and Park Master Plan for nature-based resources within the San Antonio River Basin seeks to define the roles of three major utilities: the San Antonio River Authority, the Power Company and the Water Service. This inter-jurisdictional plan develops a series environmentally responsive projects that can serve both the utilities and provide leverage for expanding and maintaining recreational services at the lakes.

This community-based plan identifies each community's nature-based resources and weaves them together to create a region-wide interconnected, multi-use system, which is respectful of individual property owners while encouraging recreational, educational and economic development. The plan promotes public awareness of these opportunities and supports stewardship of local resources through the use of sustainable materials and maintenance practices. Above all, this plan provides an opportunity to connect to, and focus on, the San Antonio River and its major tributaries.
