Runoff from paving supports vegetation
in the drainages surrounding the maintenance facility.
Planting on the site is designed to mitigate the visual
impact of the facility paving from specific views from Qunicy
Road and the County Road. In relating to its location, the
design draws on an agricultural model, where plantings relate
to the facility and create microclimates. At the high point
of the site, a coniferous community association typical
on the Palmer Divide south of the area includes ponderosa
and pinon pines, junipers and mountain mahogany. The upper
drainages contain a shrub community including american plum
and chokecherry. In the water quality area, an aerial hedge
of ash provides an extremely effective break to the visual
impact of the paving. Site trees including locust and hackberry
are particularly well-suited to naturalizing on this high
plains site.

Parking lot runoff is directed to a water quality swale
planted with native grasses. Sediment here can easily be
removed by a small bobcat.
