The Duck Lake Management Plan established a framework for
a long-term, cooperative relationship between the Denver
Zoo, the City and County of Denver Department of Parks and
Recreation and Denver Water.
The Management Plan illustrates a complex, open-ended
process that demonstrates how different methods for dealing
with problems can succeed one another as circumstances change,
and identifies a critical path of decision points in relation
to planned improvements in and adjacent to the site.
The plan also identifies responsibilities for specific
tasks in the first year and calls for the establishment
of a management process that assigns specific responsibilities
for maintaining the process and constantly assessing and
reassessing progress to individuals or positions.
Parks & Gardens' primary responsibilities included
the coordination and facilitation of a series of stakeholder
workshops that allowed participants to share and prioritize
short and long term goals and objectives. Implementation
strategies were identified and prioritized, which allowed
all stakeholders to move forward with individual projects
in a coordinated and mutually supportive environment.

Duck Lake has an established history as outstanding urban
bird habitat. Habitat is one component of a variety of experiences
available within the City Park, and served as the foundation
for the original master planning of the Denver Zoo.
